Syracuse’s run in the Big East tournament has come to an end. The fourth-seeded Orange fell 4-1 to fifth-seeded DePaul in the second round on Friday.

Syracuse continued its dominance in doubles, winning the doubles point for the second time in as many days. First doubles Maddie Kobelt and Brittany Lashway took home the first match 8-3.

Second doubles tandem Amanda Rodgers and Komal Safdar followed suit, winning 8-4 in their match. Third doubles pairing Aleah Marrow and Alex Aiello were the only team to fall in doubles.

Singles was a different story. The Orange lost its first four matches, losing three of four in straight sets. Jimena Wu, Breanna Bachini, Rodgers and Kobelt all fell to DePaul.

Safdar and Aiello did not finish their individual matchups, as the Orange had already lost.

The Orange defeated DePaul 4-3 Feb. 24 in the regular season matchup between the two teams, but SU could not replicate its regular season success. The regular season match was Syracuse’s closest of the season, with Amanda Rodgers winning a third set tiebreak to win the match.

Despite a 7-1 regular season conference record, the Orange was unable to escape the second round for the second straight season. SU had no seniors on its roster, which will allow for a young and experienced Orange team to make a run again at the title in the ACC.

Up next for the Orange is the consolation bracket, where SU will play at least one match Saturday before returning home.
