Syracuse secures 16 medals at Red Dragon Invite

Syracuse took a short trip down to the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex yesterday for the Red Dragon Invitational.
In the short distance events, the Orange quickly made their presence known. In the men’s 100m dash, third-year sprinter Daijon Richards earned his first of two medals at the meet as he finished in 11.00 seconds en route to a second-place finish. In the women’s 100m, Kaleia Arrington took home first place with 12.51.
In the 200m, Arrington collected her second first-place finish of the day in 25.32 seconds. In the men’s 200m, James Nmah earned second place with 22.09.
First-year runner Catriona McKeown secured first place in the women’s 400m in 1:00.68. Sophomore Kristine Krumper also placed, earning fourth with 1:03.71 and narrowly missing another podium finish.
In the 400m hurdles, Kirstyn Schechter locked in another medal for SU, crossing the finish line in second place at 1:03.59. Schechter also placed in the 100m hurdles with another second-place finish with 14.40. Her teammate CJ Fox also made an appearance on the podium, closing out the race in 14.65 seconds.
In the men’s 110m hurdles, Naseem Smith (14.38) and David Peters (14.44) tacked on two additional medals, as the sprinters took home first and second place, respectively.
In the 1500m run, it was a clean sweep for both the SU men and women. Sydney Nowicki, Kensey May and Caroline Kirby each found themselves on the podium, with 4:36:06, 4:37:38 and 4:37:41, respectively.
Meanwhile, Olivia Joly (4:40.17), Shanley Koekemoer (4:41.17), Madeline Heintz (4:43.35), Reilly Zink (4:44.37), Siobhan O’Keefe (4:45.54), Emily Nugent (4:45.91) and Bethany Steiner (4:45.92) earned top-10 finishes. For the men, Sam Lawler (3:54.76), Ethan Wechsler (3:55.19) and Silas Derfel (3:55.92) took home first, second and third place, respectively. Jack Whetstone (3:56.29), Kamari Miller (3:57.11), Eamon Burke (3:59.28) and Alex Herbst (4:00.67) each secured top-10 finishes as well.
Syracuse will travel to Pennsylvania to compete in the Bucknell Outdoor Classic next week, as well as Gainesville, Florida, for the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational.
