Jaheem Hayles continues strong start as Syracuse competes in Clemson, BU invitationals

The Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational began Friday afternoon with the men’s and women’s 60m dash. On the women’s side, Kahniya James placed 24th in the semifinals at 7.56 but did not qualify for the finals. Kaleia Arrington also competed and placed 47th in the preliminary round with a time 7.91, also missing out on the semifinals. In the men’s race, Sean Tucker was the lone runner for Syracuse, finishing in 6.90 seconds and placed 28th. Tucker also did not qualify for the semifinal round.
The next event of the day was the 60m hurdles. Jaheem Hayles had another strong meet, placing fifth with a final time of 7.78. Naseem Smith, Anthony Vazquez and Isaiah Lewis all made it to the semifinals and placed 17 through 19th, respectively. Neither Smith, Vazquez or Lewis qualified for the finals, finishing with respective times of 8.012, 8.017 and 8.04.
On the women’s side Shaleah Colaire took 22nd place in the semifinals with a final time of 8.59 but missed out on the finals. CJ Fox finished 47th in the preliminary round and did not qualify for the semifinals (9.37).
Friday’s next event was the 400m dash. Four runners competed on the women’s side for Syracuse. Eunice Boateng finished in 19th place with a final time of 55.04. Kennedy Tarley placed 55th (57.70), Natalya Rodney took 68th (59.59), and Jana Riley placed 70th (1:00.45). On the men’s side James Nmah placed 62nd at 50.92, and Xayvion Perkins placed 65th (51.45).
That same afternoon at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational, Annie Boos and Abigail Spiers each recorded personal bests in the 3000m, placing 15th (9:22.07) and 16th (9:23.29), respectively, out of nearly 200 total runners.
In the same race, freshman Savannah Roark finished in 33rd place (9:37.88), Emma Eastman placed 52nd (9:45.68) and Eleanor Lawler, Reilly Zink and Sydney Nowicki placed 64th (9:51.97), 65th (9:52.05), and 66th (9:52.06), respectively. Following that trio was Olivia Joly who placed 79th (9:56.97), Justus Holden-Betts in 85th (9:58.78), Emily Lane in 97th (10:08.22) and Emily Nugent in 129th (10:26.18)
In the 60m hurdles at BU, Kirstyn Schecter took sixth with a final time of 9.27, and Sheridan McGadden placed 19th at 9.81.
In the women’s one mile run, Sage Brooks led the way for Syracuse coming in 54th at 4:51.68. Following her was Bethany Steiner in 109th (5:04.45), Caroline Kirby in 139th (5:10.76) and finally Bearett Tarris in 193rd (5:26.42). In Friday’s final race, Mariana McManus was Syracuse’s lone runner in the women’s 400 meter, placing 172nd at 1:03.75.
The races continued on Saturday at Clemson in the 200m dash. On the women’s side, Boateng finished first among Syracuse runners, coming in 22nd at 23.86. She was followed by Colaire who placed 43rd (24.46) and finally Janelle Pottinger who placed 67th (25.47). On the men’s side Nmah placed 67th in 22.50.
Matthew Dragon competed in the men’s 3000m at the BU invitational, where he took 72nd in 8:47.32. In the men’s 800m, Syracuse runner Alexander Segarra placed 98th with a final time of 1:55.99. In the men’s mile, JP Trojan came in first among Syracuse runners coming in 40th at 4:04.20, and was followed by Patrick Malone who placed 260th at 4:30.60
In the men’s 3000m, Nathan Henderson placed 15th overall, with a final time of 7:52.83. He was followed by Alex Comerford, Kevin Robertson and Matthew Scrape, who all placed within the top 50 (38th, 44th, 48th) with final times of 8:07.99, 8:08.97 and 8:09.84, respectively. Sam Lawler, who took 67th (8:14.77), Ethan Wechsler came in 85th (8:21.08) and Kamari Miller in 132nd (8:49.61).
