Syracuse’s Miranda Ramirez and Gabriela Knutson reached the doubles semifinals before losing at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championship last week in Pacific Palisades, California.

By reaching the doubles semifinals, Knutson and Ramirez earned automatic entry into the 2017 Oracle ITA Fall Championships, which take place November 1-5 in Palm Desert, California.

SU’s No. 47 ranked duo were selected as part of the main draw for the doubles competition. In the Round of 32, the Orange pair defeated No. 19 Maddie Pothoff and Madison Clarke of Santa Clara, 8-7 (1). Then in the round of 16, Knutson and Ramirez won again in a tiebreak, defeating No. 6 Arianne Hartono and Alexa Bortles of Ole Miss, 8-7 (2). Both wins came on Oct. 5.

The next day, Syracuse’s pairing played the quarterfinal against Emma Kurtz and Christina Rosca from Vanderbilt. The Vandy pair had just defeated the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed, from Michigan, in the previous round. Knutson and Ramirez emerged victorious again, 8-6.

The semifinal on Oct. 7 featured an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup with SU going up against No. 25 Kaitlyn McCarthy and Ellyse Hamlin from Duke. The Blue Devils pair won, 6-3, 6-3, to advance to the championship round, which they won.

Ramirez and Knutson were each entered into the qualifying draw in the singles competition but neither player made it out to the main draw.
