Gertis McDowell died at his residence on Jan. 7 of natural causes. He was 67. McDowell was known for sitting outside the Starbucks, interacting with those passing by and asking for change. In the 77-page report submitted to Syverud on Wednesday, the workgroup said it had identified “numerous service gaps in the wake of the closing of the Advocacy Center and after the subsequent realignment of services and resources.” The workgroup said in its report that the most notable problem was the lack of communication at all levels of the SU community.
