The Daily Orange is the student-run campus newspaper of Syracuse University. Founded in 1903, the newspaper became independent from the university in 1971— in which it does not receive any money or oversight from the university — and has remained independent since then. The DO prints Monday through Thursday during the entire academic year.

Like all print newspapers, The DO has had to develop new strategies to adapt to the current climate.  We’re currently looking into strategies to reduce costs and increase revenue in future semesters, including:

  • developing a new business plan similar to other non-profit news organizations
  • adjusting staff salaries and paid positions
  • planning extensive fundraising
  • looking into alternative sizes or styles of printing
  • expanding online presence

These strategies take time to research and won’t be implemented overnight. In order to cover costs for the 2014-2015 school year, The Daily Orange would like to raise $15,000. This 2014-2015 campaign is the first step of a much larger campaign to ensure the paper’s financial stability.
