Syracuse assistant coach named to US national team

Syracuse women’s lacrosse assistant coach Katie Rowan has been named to the U.S. national team to compete in the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse World Cup, according to an SU Athletics press release Wednesday. Rowan will be one of 18 players to represent the U.S. this summer in Oshawa, Ontario.

The U.S. national team was picked from 25 players off the U.S. women’s national training team. Last weekend, Team USA played in the Champion Challenge in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., and Rowan recorded three goals and four assists in three games, including a team-high five points in a win over Syracuse.

Rowan competed in the 2009 World Cup with the U.S. national team, which won gold. She was the team’s second-leading scorer with 15 goals and recorded 20 assists.

One of Syracuse’s greatest players ever, Rowan holds Syracuse’s career records in points, goals scored and assists after playing from 2006-09. She was a two-time Big East Attack Player of the Year and SU’s only three-time first-team All-American. Rowan earned the 2009 Soladay Award, the highest honor given to an SU student-athlete.
