Syracuse volleyball drops pair of conference games on weekend road trip

The Syracuse volleyball team had a rough swing through the Midwest.
The Orange (8-10, 0-3 Big East) traveled to Chicago on Saturday afternoon and dropped its match against DePaul in four sets (21-25, 31-29, 18-25, 20-25). Syracuse went to South Bend, Ind., on Sunday and was swept by Notre Dame (13-25, 19-25, 22-25).
Syracuse battled in the second set against DePaul (6-10, 1-2) on Saturday. The score was tied 16 times and there were five lead changes. With the score at 29-29, Silvi Uattara notched a kill for the Orange, and the Blue Demons’ Rachel Aumann committed an error to give Syracuse the set win.
DePaul won the third and fourth sets to win the match.
Uattara led SU with 12 kills, and Andrea Fisher added 10. Samantha Hinz had four blocks for Syracuse.
Against Notre Dame (10-6, 3-1) on Sunday, the Orange lost the first two sets to the Fighting Irish. Syracuse went on a 7-2 run in the third set to gain a 17-12 lead, but fell apart toward the end, and Notre Dame won the set 25-22 to win the match.
Syracuse comes home to continue its Big East schedule this weekend. The Orange plays South Florida in the Women’s Building at noon Friday and finishes off the weekend with Pittsburgh at 2 p.m. Sunday.
