Sophomore guard Nyah Wilson announced on her Instagram Monday afternoon that she will enter the transfer portal. She is the first SU player to enter the portal following the 2022-23 season. Wilson played limited minutes for a new-look Orange and their first-year head coach Felisha Legette-Jack.
One of just five players who remained with the team after a tumultuous 11-18 record under interim coach Vonn Read, Wilson appeared in 20 games and earned one start during her freshman season. She recorded a career-high nine points against Monmouth and a career-high 30 minutes played against North Carolina.
This year, Wilson experienced a downtick in her season stats, playing behind a continuously revolving backcourt of Dyaisha Fair, Alaina Rice, Teisha Hyman and Kennedi Perkins. She notched a season-best seven points against Binghamton and also saw the court in limited play-time during Syracuse’s opening two games of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament. Wilson did not play in SU’s 88-82 Super 16 loss to Columbia, which ended SU’s season.
A product of Duncanville High School in Dallas, Texas, Wilson was a 1,000 point scorer and helped lead her team to a Class 6A state championship. Wilson was featured in 40 games for Syracuse and tallied 68 total points to go along with 24 assists.
