Syracuse players earned three College Hockey America awards this week. Victoria Klimek and Jessica DiGirolamo won CHA Forward of the Week and CHA Defenseman of the Week, respectively. Meanwhile, forward Madison Primeau won CHA Rookie of the Week. This comes after the Orange defeated Lindenwood twice over the weekend, keeping them undefeated in the month of January.

Klimek scored both of the game-winning goals on Friday and Saturday in her final regular-season games at Tennity Ice Pavilion. In the second period of the first game, Klimek set herself up at the front of the net to receive a pass from Tatum White. When the graduate student forward got the pass from White, Klimek had a wide-open look at the net and her shot beat Emily Finach to make the score 2-0. Klimek then scored her second goal of the game on an empty net to make the final score 6-1.

On Saturday, with the game tied at 3-3 and a little over seven minutes left, White connected with Klimek again, who scored on a breakaway to give the Orange a 4-3 lead over the Lady Lions. This ended the forward’s weekend scoring, finishing with four points. Klimek’s performance helped her win the Forward of the Week for the third time this season.

Like Klimek, DiGirolamo’s final weekend series at Tennity saw her win a CHA award. It was the fifth time this season and the second week in a row that the Mississauga, Ontario native won the Defenseman of the Week. DiGirolamo tallied two assists in the two games, which helped her break Syracuse’s assist record for a defenseman. After blocking six shots in the previous weekend series against RIT, DiGirolamo blocked two more shots against Lindenwood.

DiGirolamo was also crucial in Primeau’s success against the Lady Lions on Friday, helping the freshman forward win her second Rookie of the Week award this season. The defenseman sent a sliding pass to Primeau, who quickly skated into the LU zone and fired a powerful shot into the net. This was Primeau’s first of two goals on the night, her first multi-goal game of her collegiate career. Primeau added four other shots on goal, won 11 faceoffs and blocked two shots.
