No. 8 Syracuse (5-3, 3-0 Atlantic Coast) goalie Dom Madonna has been named NCAA Lacrosse Player of the Week by Warrior/US Lacrosse after tying his career-high with 13 saves against Notre Dame. In the 10-6 Orange win, Madonna held Notre Dame to its lowest goal output of the season (six) and prevented the Fighting Irish from scoring on any of their eight man-up opportunities.

“I thought Dom had another special day, making some one-on-one saves, especially in the man-down situation,” Syracuse head coach John Desko said after the win. “Hats off to him and the man-down defense.”

Madonna’s play in net also earned him ACC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. The first came after SU’s 11-10 triple-overtime victory over Army.

“He’s a nice goalie. He takes some away from you,” Notre Dame head coach Kevin Corrigan said after his team’s loss. “When you’re struggling on a day like this and he takes some of those opportunities away from you, it makes it tough.”
