Sofya Golubovskaya named ACC Co-Freshman of the week

Syracuse freshman Sofya Golubovskaya was named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Freshman of the week Tuesday afternoon after a pair of wins at both second singles and second doubles over the weekend. Golubovskaya shared the award with Duke’s Kelly Chen.
Golubovskaya overcame a rough end to the second set on Friday, defeating Kylie Wilcox of Boston College, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3. Sunday, she rallied at the end of the first set to beat Valerie Shklover of Yale 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. Despite a few rough patches in both matches, the freshman pulled out victories to help SU continue its perfect start at home this season.
In doubles, Golubovskaya partnered with Anna Shkudun, winning both matches this weekend, 6-4, and improving her doubles record to 5-1 on the year. The Orange freshman is 4-1 in singles, including a 4-0 record at second singles this year. As the Orange enters a five-match road trip, Golubovskaya is riding a three-match winning streak.
This award is the first for Golubovskaya and the first for any SU player this season.
