Syracuse gave up the first two points of the night before a Frank Howard 3 put the Orange up 3-2.
Syracuse (18-10, 7-8 Atlantic Coast) kept trying to get back in Wednesday’s game against No. 10 North Carolina (22-7, 11-5). The Tar Heels did just enough to hold the Orange off, though. Tyus Battle scored 26 and Frank Howard added 23, but SU ended up losing 78-74. In a chance to boost its postseason resume, Syracuse came up short in the Carrier Dome.
