SU student reports attempted strong-arm robbery

A Syracuse University student reported an attempted strong-arm robbery Friday morning at the top of the stairs near the intersection of East Raynor Avenue and Fineview Place, police said.

Around 10:30 a.m. Friday, the student was approached by a man, who asked to use her cell phone, according to a Department of Public Safety notice. After the student refused, the suspect grabbed her backpack, looked through it and threw it to the ground without taking anything, DPS said.

The suspect then left the scene, taking off down the stairs toward Renwick Avenue in a southwest direction away from campus, according to the notice.
