Syracuse (4-6) finished its fifth game of the Jacksonville University Tournament Sunday with a loss to Akron (6-4), 4-3.

The Orange split two games in its second day of the tournament on Saturday. SU won the first game, 5-4, against Bethune-Cookman (2-7) and lost the second game to Jacksonville (4-6), 8-6.

Jocelyn Cater started the game on Sunday for SU, pitching the first three innings. She allowed one earned run on one hit, striking out one and walking two.

Syracuse started the scoring in the top of the first inning when a Julie Wambold triple brought Sammy Fernandez and Maddi Doane across the plate to score. Akron answered in the bottom of the inning with one run of its own.

Sydney O’Hara came on in the fourth inning to pitch, giving up three earned runs on six hits. She walked one and struck out two.

After allowing only one hit in the fourth inning, O’Hara gave up three runs in the bottom of the fifth. She allowed five hits in the inning, starting with a leadoff single to left field by Cassie Gillespie.

Akron’s Taryn Allmon singled to first base, advancing the runner to second. Chelsea Wildey singled to center field, scoring Kayla Schlosser who had come on for Gillespie to pinch run.

O’Hara gave up another run to the next batter when Alyssa Nicholas singled to left center, scoring Allmon. McKenzi Rhodes had the final RBI of the inning for Akron when she singled to left field, bringing the score to 4-2.

Syracuse answered with one run in the top of the sixth inning. The rally started when Fernandez singled to left-center and Corinne Ozanne walked. Wambold singled up the middle, bringing Fernandez around to score from second. The Orange left one runner stranded on base, failing to score the tying run.

Lindsey Larkin replaced O’Hara to pitch the bottom of the sixth inning and retired the side in order, but Syracuse was unable to put together a rally in the top of the seventh, falling in order.

Fernandez and Wambold both had stolen bases in the contest, while Wambold had all three of SU’s RBI’s.
